The polyester film does not absorb moisture at all. It will not warp, soften, or degrade when wet - making it the right material for outdoor tags, plant labels, and any environment where a card tag would not last.

Tearproof throughout

Polyester film will not tear under normal handling. For equipment tags, inspection tags, and inventory labels that are repeatedly removed and reattached, this makes a significant practical difference.

The 150gsm option is paper-like in flexibility - light and easy to attach. The 360gsm is closer to card in rigidity, better suited to tags that need to hang and hold their shape. Both are equally waterproof and tearproof.

How to get the best print results from waterproof swing tags

Waterproof swing tags are printed on off-white polyester film using full-colour CMYK printing. Supply artwork at a minimum resolution of 300dpi at the final print size. The smooth polyester surface delivers sharp, accurate colour reproduction - fine detail and small text both print cleanly, and type down to 7pt is generally legible.

Designing for an off-white base

The polyester film is off-white rather than bright white, so colours will carry a very slight warm tint compared to printing on a pure white base. In practice this is barely noticeable on most designs. Full-colour photographs, bold graphics, and strong typographic designs all work well. The smooth surface means colours reproduce consistently and accurately across the whole tag.

Choosing between 150gsm and 360gsm

The 150gsm option has a paper-like flexibility - lightweight, easy to thread onto string or attach to a product, and suited to applications where a low-profile label is needed. Note that the 150gsm material is not fully opaque, so double-sided designs may show faint bleed-through from one side to the other. The 360gsm option is board-like in rigidity and hangs with more presence, making it better for equipment identification tags, inspection tags, and any application where the tag needs to hold its shape independently. Both weights are equally waterproof and tearproof.

Choosing the right size and shape for your product

The most popular rectangle sizes for waterproof hang tags are 50x100mm and 70x90mm, which suit most horticultural, equipment, and outdoor applications. For inspection and safety tags needing more information, 60x140mm provides additional space. Round waterproof tags are a practical choice for plant labels and equipment identification - available from 40mm to 90mm diameter. If choosing a rectangle or square shape, rounded corners are strongly recommended - due to the strength of the polyester material, square corners can leave sharp edges. Templates are available to download in rectangle, round, square, and oval shapes.

Finishing options that work well with polyester film

Rounded corners are recommended for waterproof plastic tags - they eliminate sharp corners that can snag or bend in outdoor environments. A standard 4mm drill hole suits most string and cable tie attachments. Braided nylon string in any of the six available colours is the most practical pairing, as it shares the waterproof durability of the tag itself. Natural cotton twine and jute are also available, though these are better suited to indoor or short-term outdoor use.

Are waterproof swing tags fully waterproof or just water-resistant?

Fully waterproof. The polyester film does not absorb moisture and will not warp, soften, or degrade when wet. This is not a surface coating - the material itself is waterproof throughout. They are equally tearproof, so they will not rip or fray under normal handling, even when wet.

What is the difference between waterproof and laminated swing tags?

Laminated tags have a protective coating applied over a card base - they resist smudging and light moisture but are not fully waterproof. Waterproof tags are made from polyester film throughout, with no card base to absorb water. Pick laminated for indoor applications where a premium finish matters most, and waterproof for outdoor tags, horticultural labelling, and industrial settings where the tag gets properly wet.

Can waterproof tags be used as outdoor tags long-term?

Yes. The polyester film is designed to withstand prolonged outdoor exposure - rain, humidity, and repeated handling will not degrade the tag or the printed design. Where do you deliver?

We deliver swing tags throughout the UK, Northern Ireland, Scilly Isles, the Isle of Man and Scottish Highlands and Islands. If you require delivery to a destination further afield, this may be possible and will need to be quoted for on a bespoke basis; this is not an online service. We can deliver to Guernsey and Jersey but an offline quote is required. Delivery to European destinations is not available online and may not be possible; you may be required to arrange your own collection from us. This can be discussed with our sales team during the quoting stage.

How much do you charge for delivery?

Delivery to any mainland UK destination is FREE, so no hidden extras at checkout. Delivery areas outside mainland UK will incur an additional charge at checkout which will be displayed before you proceed with your order. Any additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by the recipient. Handy Brand UK Limited cannot accept any liability for any import duty that is levied by the destination country. Please check with your local tax office or import duty representative to ensure you are complying with the relevant regulations.

How fast can you print my swing tag order?

Once you have approved your PDF swing tag proof. We aim to print, finish and despatch your swing tag order within 48 hours. We use a trackable next day delivery service via DPD for all mainland UK destinations. Deliveries to destinations outside of mainland UK will result in additional days in transit; please allow for this.

What time of day do you deliver?

Once we've booked your order in for despatch, you will receive an SMS text message or email with a delivery date and time, with a 1-hour delivery window. In general, your order will be delivered between 9am - 6pm, Monday to Friday. (Not including Bank Holidays).

Can you deliver on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange for your order to be delivered on a Saturday. A Saturday delivery service will incur an additional charge, this type of order cannot be placed online. Please contact our handy customer service
