Choosing your eyelet colour
Eyelets come in three metal finishes: gold, silver, and black. Gold suits warm, premium designs and natural boards, silver is the clean all-rounder for contemporary branding, and black delivers a sharp, modern look against both dark and light tags. Whichever you choose, the eyelet is fitted before dispatch so your tags arrive finished and ready to use.
Eyelet size and positioning
All eyelets are round and fit a 4mm drill hole. On rectangle and square tags the eyelet can be positioned top left, top right, or top centre, with top centre the most popular choice; if you choose angle corners, the eyelet sits top centre, as the angled cut removes the top corners of the tag. On round and oval tags the eyelet is always top centre. We recommend keeping the finished eyelet a minimum of 3mm away from the tag's edge so the material around it retains its strength and does not tear.
Eyelets and the Kimble gun
If you attach tags with a Kimble gun, eyelets are a natural fit: the 4mm eyelet hole takes a nylon fastener cleanly, and the metal ring stops the fastener wearing the hole over time. Tags attach in seconds and stay secure through repeated handling.
Eyelets, materials and durability
Every material in our range can take an eyelet, from Standard Silk to Brown Kraft and Recycled boards. For tags that live outdoors or get handled constantly, combine an eyelet with a tear-proof material such as our waterproof polyester for the most durable tag we make.
Eyelet tags, not metal tags
A quick clarification: our eyelet tags are printed card or synthetic tags finished with a metal eyelet, not engraved solid metal plate tags. If you're searching for metal hang tags in that sense, we don't produce them, but a printed tag with a metallic material and a matching eyelet gets remarkably close to the look.
Frequently asked questions
What is an eyelet on a tag?
An eyelet is a small metal ring fitted into a tag's drill hole. It reinforces the hole, stops the string or fastener tearing the material, and gives the tag a neat, professional finish.
What eyelet colours are available?
Eyelets are available in gold, silver, and black. All three are fitted metal eyelets and can be added to any material in our range.
What size are the eyelets?
Our eyelets are round and fit a 4mm drill hole, which is available on every shape and size we offer.
Where can the eyelet be positioned?
On rectangle and square tags: top left, top right, or top centre, with top centre the most popular (with angle corners, the eyelet sits top centre). On round and oval tags the eyelet sits top centre. We keep the eyelet at least 3mm from the tag edge to protect the material's strength.
Do you offer rectangular eyelets?
No, all our eyelets are round. A round eyelet suits every tag shape we print and keeps the finished hole compatible with strings, snap-locks, and Kimble gun fasteners.
Can I use a Kimble gun with eyelets?
Yes. The 4mm eyelet takes a Kimble gun's nylon fastener cleanly, and the metal ring protects the hole from wear, making it the most durable way to attach tags at speed.
What is the minimum order quantity?
The minimum order is 25 tags with an eyelet fitted, with quantities running from 25 up to 10,000+.
